Day 1: Welcome to the Amazon – Living Nature and Forest Culture
Reception in Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the lodge
Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, our team will greet you with a warm welcome. After a brief stop at our office in town, you can leave any luggage you won’t be using during your stay in the jungle, allowing you to travel lighter and more comfortably.
From Puerto Bolívar , we will begin our first Amazonian journey: a peaceful and scenic boat ride along the Madre de Dios River (approximately 40 minutes), until we reach our eco-lodge immersed in the tropical forest.
Upon arrival at the Corto Maltes Amazonia lodge, you’ll be greeted with a fresh fruit juice made with seasonal fruits. Your guide will give you a welcome briefing with helpful recommendations and give you the keys to your charming wooden bungalow, inspired by local architecture.
Lunch at the lodge
We will enjoy a lunch prepared with fresh local produce. If you arrive after 1:00 pm, an eco-friendly box lunch made with recyclable materials will be provided.
Afternoon: Interpretive walk and Amazonian culture
3:30 PM – With our local guide, we’ll embark on a two-hour hike along the trails in the primary forest surrounding the lodge. This 60-hectare private reserve is a true biodiversity sanctuary.
We’ll get up close to ancient trees and medicinal plants, and learn about the ecosystems that sustain life in the jungle.
During the hike, we’ll visit a chestnut camp, where the famous Amazonian nuts are harvested, and a rubber tapping camp, a replica of the ancient latex extraction centers. We’ll see the artisanal process and learn about the history of an activity that shaped the local economy for centuries.
Free afternoon and relaxation at the lodge
Upon returning, you’ll have time to relax in the hammocks on your private terrace, cool off in the lodge’s pool, enjoy a traditional massage (optional), or simply gaze out over the river from the jetty as the evening falls.
Night: Alligator Safari under the stars
7:00 PM – Before dinner, we’ll set out again by boat for an exciting night cruise. We’ll search for caimans and other animals that inhabit the riverbanks. By the light of our flashlights, and with a little luck, we might also see capybaras, nocturnal birds, or even a sloth.
Dinner in the lodge dining room
8:00 PM – We’ll end the day with a delicious dinner, surrounded by the night songs of the jungle. Afterward, you can relax in your bungalows, surrounded by the stars and the sounds of the Amazon.
Day 2: Colorful birds and a farewell with local flavor
Dawn at the parrot clay lick
5:30 – We wake up early to have a hot tea before setting off on foot to a natural parrot clay lick, about 20 minutes from the lodge.
In this special place, dozens of parrots of various species descend every morning to consume clay, essential for their digestion. It’s a spectacle of colors and sounds unique to the Amazon, where the senses are awakened.
Breakfast and return to the city
8:00 AM – Breakfast at the lodge. Afterward, we board the boat again for Puerto Maldonado.
Visit to the local market
Before departing for the airport, we’ll make a brief but interesting stop at the local market in Puerto Maldonado. Here, your guide will show you traditional products such as exotic fruits, medicinal herbs, and typical regional foods, which are part of everyday life for Amazonian families.
Then, transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
