Day 1: Arequipa – Salinas Reserve – Chivay
7:00 am – Pick up at your hotel (Arequipa)
We’ll begin the day with pickup from your hotel in Arequipa. Our professional guide will give you a brief introduction to the tour and the points of interest we’ll visit along the way.
Pampa Cañahuas – Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve
Our first stop will be the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve, the natural habitat of vicuñas, one of the most emblematic species of Andean fauna. Here you can observe these elegant camelids in their natural environment, learn about their cultural and ecological importance, and enjoy the views of the Arequipa plateau.
Patapampa (4,910 meters above sea level) – Volcano Viewpoint
We continue to Patapampa, the highest point of the hike, where the Volcano Viewpoint is located. From here, you’ll have a breathtaking panoramic view of the Misti, Chachani, Ampato, Sabancaya, and Hualca Hualca volcanoes. You can also sip coca tea to help with altitude acclimatization.
1:00 pm – Arrival in Chivay and typical lunch
We arrive in Chivay, capital of Caylloma province and gateway to the Colca Canyon. Here we will enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant, where you can sample regional dishes.
3:30 pm – La Calera Hot Springs (optional)
In the afternoon, you’ll have the option to visit the La Calera hot springs, located just minutes from Chivay. These natural springs, with temperatures reaching up to 38°C, are ideal for relaxing after your trip and enjoying the natural surroundings.
6:30 pm – Free dinner or with folklore show (optional)
The evening is free for you to explore Chivay at your own pace. If you wish, you can opt for a dinner with a folklore show, where you’ll enjoy traditional music and dance from the region.
Night in Chivay
Accommodation in a comfortable, local-style hotel, with all the basic amenities for a restful night in the highlands.
Day 2: Chivay – Cruz del Cóndor – Arequipa
6:00 am – Breakfast at the hotel
We begin the day with a buffet breakfast at the hotel, featuring local and international options to recharge our batteries before the excursion to the Condor Lookout.
6:30 am – Departure to the Cruz del Cóndor
We set off for one of the most anticipated moments of the tour: the Cruz del Cóndor, the most famous natural viewpoint in the Colca Canyon and one of the best places in the world to observe the flight of the Andean condor, a sacred bird for the Andean people.
Condor watching and free time
We will have enough time to:
- Watch the majestic flight of the condor from the depths of the canyon
- Take spectacular photographs of the canyon and its pre-Inca terraces
- Take a light walk through the nearby ravine
- Learn about the spiritual importance of the condor in the Andean worldview
Visit to Maca and Yanque – Traditional Villages
On the way back, we will visit the towns of Maca and Yanque, known for their:
- Colonial churches with baroque altarpieces
- Local crafts: textiles, ceramics, and alpaca fiber products
- Traditional clothing of local communities
- Main squares with quiet and authentic atmospheres
12:30 pm – Lunch in Chivay
Time for lunch in Chivay. Local restaurant overlooking the valley.
1:30 pm – Return to Arequipa
We begin the return to Arequipa, with brief stops along the way for rest and photographs.
5:30 pm – Arrival at the hotel
Arrival in Arequipa and end of the tour. We’ll drop you off in Arequipa’s historic center, your heart filled with landscapes, traditions, and unforgettable moments.
